I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.
I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.
I quit my job. You know, the stable one with benefits and a regular pay cheque. It was a long drawn out process filled with humming and hawing, counter offers and confusion. I remember walking back home after the second time I tried to quit feeling like I had let my family down, perhaps even that I had let myself down. It seemed far too soon. After all, I had only been working there for not quite three months. But the reality was if I had stayed, I would have been letting my family down in other ways and besides, between you and me, the hours they demanded outweighed what I walked home with at the end of the day. Still, I had no way to compensate for the income that would be lost. I jumped as Ben and I saw often do – blind and without a parachute.
And yet, I am amazed at God’s provision – at his whispers of affirmation and assurance. It seems so simple, and while I recognize the nature of photography as extremely volatile, I am grateful for all of the inquiries I have had since the day I submitted my resignation. The spring is always slow for my photography business, especially since I don’t solicit business. Seriously, I do nothing. It has and probably always will be a hobby career that I do on the side for the love of it, not for the money but for whatever reason, in the last two weeks, I have received more inquiries and have had more photography work than I had all January to July.
I acknowledge the blessing and I am grateful.
Here is just a sampling of the what I have been up to.
